The Bootleg Bar, voor wie het nog niet kent, is een podcast (iTMS) van Kelvin Smits en Sebastien Kalonji, onder andere bekend van bijdragen aan dEUS, en sinds kort ook van hun eigen label The Wack Attack Barrack, wat op zijn beurt ook ontstaan is uit een sublieme podcast (iTMS).

Ongeveer om de maand passeert een Belgische artiest de reveu en worden grotendeels onuitgegeven nummers en demo’s gedraaid, aan elkaar gepraat met een vloeiend interview met de artiest zelf door Sebastien.

Tot nu zijn al Mauro, Arsenal, Cartel Deluxe en K’Bonus aan bod gekomen. Twee weken geleden was het de beurt aan Sven van Hees, wat voor mij één van de sterkste edities van The Bootleg Bar was tot nu toe. Sinds kerstavond valt ook Guy van Nueten te beluisteren. Een prachtig kerstgeschenk.

Discovered last week: Thinner/Autoplate; an internet music label that distributes MP3s under a Creative Commons license.

Judging from the number of comments on Discogs, they appear to be very welll known, although I’ve never heard of them before. Maybe that’s because I’m “fairly new” to IDM kind of music.

They seem to be related with The Black Dog in some way and their latest album Spokes is also praised. I’ll check out both of them later…

Sex With The Machines shows Anthony Rothers’ “minimal electro” skills and reminds deeply of Kraftwerk, but without being a rip, like the comments at Discogs say. This was his first album, and if you listen to the cheerful electropopish Popkiller, his latest album, you can hear his electro has evolved a lot since then.

Elixir Of Life is another side of Rother I yet had to experience untill now, and I like it a lot. Flowing ambient in it’s purest form…
